Whoops a daisy, White Van Man!
I was at a fab event yesterday – the Macclesfield Family Fun Day in West Park. The craft marquee was organised by Jackie and Jim of www.biddulphcraftfayres.co.uk – a fabulously friendly and helpful couple.
But I nearly didn’t get there. I was just exiting the M6, sitting waiting at the roundabout, when BANG!! White Van Man had forgotten to stop until his bumper made contact with the rear end of my little car. Driving a little way round the corner to exchange details, I heard an horrendous scraping noise and thought something serious may be amiss. It turned out that the bumper and tyre were getting much more closely acquainted than is healthy for them. White Van Man turned out to be quite a nice, friendly decorator who used a bit of brute force and a bit of masking tape to do a hasty repair to keep the bumper and tyre at a respectable distance from each other.
He was going to do a similar thing with my number plate which was lying sadly in the road between the vehicles, but I didn’t think masking tape would be up to the job - I had visions of my numberplate flying off into the face of an unsuspecting early-morning dog-walker or cyclist. Anyone who knows me will be laughing their socks off at this point, because they’d know I never drive anywhere fast enough for a numberplate to fly off like that. It’d be more likely to drop off sedately and unnoticed, and trip the dog-walker up.
Anyway, at the family fun day, I was taken to the first aid tent for a good checking over. The nurse came to check on me twice in the day, which was really good of him. My blood pressure was a bit raised, and I had a headache all day. My neck and shoulders were (and still are) a bit on the sore side. I’m hoping they don’t go too much worse, because I know whiplash injuries tend to go worse before they get better. I was bought a lovely coffee by Jackie the organiser, and given some delicious marshmallows on a stick by the chocolate fountain people. The sugar and caffeine combined to make me feel a bit more human!!
I met some lovely people. I always do at craft fairs – it’s one of the things I love so much about them. More later…
