The British Summer: beach huts, pebbles, deckchairs, sun, rain and umbrellas
In my last post I got quite excited about my love of Greece and my discovery of a Greek lady’s girly craft blog. I posted a few pics from Greece - mainly Lefkada, although the beach shot was taken in Paros.
I started this post thinking I’d share some shots of scenery from around the Uk, but I think it’s turned into more of a “typical British summer” post. Here’s my Typical British Summer:
And, although this one wouldn’t fall into the category of scenery, it was also taken at Llandullas:
I just love pebbles. I love their smoothness, the fact they’ve been washed that way slowly over centuries. Driftwood has the same smooth, time-worn and sea-worn quality. I love it, too. More pebbles for now though:
Oh but there is a drawback to pebbles, isn’t there? You notice that drawback when you are barefoot and gingerly making your way into the sea…
that’s my youngest daughter off into the sea for a paddle. The shot was taken in Beer, Devon, a couple of years ago.
Just down the coast from Beer is Branscombe:
I can’t leave the south coast without mention of beach huts. I get stupidly excited by beach huts, although I know I’m not the only one… I have sold quite a few of my beach hut paintings. One of them went all the way to Australia. Here we go then… inspiration for my artwork!
One night, we were driving in Devon and got more and more lost. As late and as lost as we were, I couldn’t help getting excited by these little babies - beach huts in the dark with fairy lights twinkling above them, gently lighting them up. Magical. I jumped out of the car and took some photos, much to the bemusement of my family, and possibly passers-by, too. I couldn’t tell you where they were, as we were lost at the time! Somewhere in South Devon, though.
