Hello 2011

Happy New Year!

So, another year is beginning.

a new year

Having no real idea what it’ll bring us, we make plans for New Year Resolutions.  I suppose it’s a way of trying to make life better in some small way.

I think most resolutions revolve around the theme of improving: getting fitter, healthier, slimmer, wealthier, etc.  I’ve long given up on the fitness thing – gyms and I don’t get along too well, running causes problems with my hip joint, and even walking a long way does the same.  Fitness this year (for me) will involve taming the large, overgrown and unruly garden I inherited when we bought this house two years ago.  Creating firewood from the trees we felled, creating a veg patch, making compost, planting fruit trees – it’s all part of the plan for 2011, but I’m not sure it’s a New Year Resolution.

I think what could make it a resolution is finding a certain number of hours a week to work on the garden.  Seven sounds like a good number – that’s an average of an hour a day and I think most of the time that might be manageable.

Another thing which ties in with that is finding more me-time – away from the business.  There hasn’t been much of that lately!  To redress the balance, I plan to build up better levels of stock – painted plaques, clock, etc., which will just need finishing off when an order arrives in my inbox.  That way, I hope to spread my time more evenly throughout the year.

And in keeping with the me-time theme, Father Christmas kindly brought me an Amazon Kindle (an e-reader).  It arrived after Christmas but for anyone wondering what to spend their Christmas money on, I can report that I’m highly impressed!  My only complaint is that it’s far too easy to buy books for the Kindle – one-click purchasing (after being able to read the first chapter free) means I may need to work extra hard to afford my book-buying habit!  It even has 3G wireless connectivity, meaning I can buy books anywhere I find myself.

I’m off to do a bit of reading now – and all that remains is for me to wish you a very Happy New Year!  Here’s hoping it’s enjoyable, exciting, relaxing, creative and healthy in vaguely equal proportions!
