Hate is a very strong word, and there’s not much in life that I hate. Oh, but I do hate migraines.
If you also get them, you’ll know exactly where I’m coming from. When a neurologist asked me to think of the worst migraine I’d ever had, and what the pain was on a scale of 1 to 10, I didn’t hesitate to score it “at least 10″. When he asked was it worse than the pain of childbirth, again I didn’t hesitate. It’s definitely worse. Fortunately, not every migraine is that bad. I can’t say they are ever pleasant though!
However, there are good sides to everything, and research shows that women who get migraines (and women are more likely to get them than men) are unlikely to ever have beast cancer. Apparently, breast cancer is linked to high oestrogen levels, and migraine is linked to low oestrogen levels. That’s my little cloud’s silver lining!
If you’d like more info on migraine, I can recommend www.migraine.org.uk and http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/headway.html - the latter has an informative email newsletter and a blog: http://headacheandmigrainenews.com/ (which I have just put as a link in my blog list). I’ve just visited there and found out it is Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week right now - up until the 20th September (edit: er, that’s tomorrow then…).
My head has been hurting all day. I’ve just had a little sleep and am feeling a little better at the moment. I haven’t painted at all today, as I don’t trust myself with customer orders! I did a bit of gardening though (fresh air and exercise helps!) and have picked about 10lbs of plums - need to get making jam and chutney next!
Tomorrow is another day, let’s hope it’s a migraine-free one…
