A Happy Ending
Because so many people were concerned about the theft of my granddaughter’s rabbit (and hutch) from their garden here I thought I’d let you know the latest news.
My daughter found out who took the hutch (a neighbour in the same road!) and was told they’d “let the rabbit go”. They wanted the hutch for more space as their own rabbit was about to have babies.
The irony of this is that my daughter does voluntary work for an animal charity who are often given rabbit hutches – and would have given a hutch away free for the asking. If they’d asked instead of stolen they could have had a brand new hutch without any of the hassle they’re now having. Hassle? Yes – and lots of it: police searches and questioning and potential RSPCA investigation and prosecution. Oh, not to mention the hassle the local kids are giving them – it was one of them who spotted the hutch in its new position in the first place.
And the rabbit? She was found quite a distance from home and taken into the RSPCA by a kind but anonymous soul, where she was, of course, looked after until my daughter arrived with her Missing Rabbit posters. Cue one very happy little girl – let’s hope this happy ending puts paid to the nightmares she’s been having.
Oh, and they’ve been given a brand new hutch and baby rabbit by a kind neighbour and been offered two baby guinea pigs by a Twitter friend. Happy ending indeed
